The post covid climate and cost of living crisis of 2022 was difficult to manage as a non profit arts organisation, the way people spend money and the times people go out have drastically changed. Despite this we were determined to navigate the space and delivered another year of BlackFest, showcasing black culture in Liverpool.
We achieved so much with all the fantastic moments we shared together and the work we produced with all you incredible artists, collaborators, partners, audience members and supporters. We ran our empowering women’s course using creative writing for social development. BlackFest received the recognition it deserves and earned taking the prize for Arts, Culture and Media 2022, as well as our Artistic Director Jubeda Khatun being named Merseyside Woman of the Year 2022. We also took the Live Lounge on tour to Manchester in collaboration with our friends at The Poetry Place.
The festival saw national collaborations from all over the country bringing in artists from Manchester, Leeds, London and more for a fantastic amalgamation of some of the best and brightest creatives the UK has to offer. We finished the year with a Christmas Bash at District, socialising, dancing, taking part in quizzes and receiving amazing raffle prizes.
A huge thank you to our festival artists, collaborators, audiences and participants!
